Happy birthday Mum. / by Rebecca Syphers

Tomorrow is your birthday Mum, you would’ve turned 67. We always had a laugh about the way you would say ‘66’, enough lisp and tongue whistles that we would then try and mimic you, especially your little mate Max. You weren’t always impressed and tomorrow would’ve ended 12 months of ‘66’ jokes.

Dad and I have organised a bbq and cake to celebrate your birthday. I think as time has gone on without you Mum and I miss you terribly, I don’t want to lose your memory. You were my best friend and I’m fighting to have you here with me in any way. So we will celebrate you just as we would’ve done had you been here with us Mum. I’ve been told the first milestones after a loved one has passed are the hardest. Christmas was a chaotic blur and I was so busy making sure everyone else was ok, I disregarded my own feelings and pushed them to the back. And looking back that is something you would’ve done because you were selfless. Just maybe I am a little too but if that means we’re alike then I’ll take it.

Happy Birthday Mumma Bear, love you endlessly and then some xx
